Letter from John Killaly

Civil engineer, Ennis, County Clare, to William H Gregory, Under Secretary of Ireland, Dublin Castle, making recommendation for creation of new road extending from Marble Hill to Gort, in County Galway, which, he estimates could be constructed for a sum less that £7,000: states that no advantage might be derived from expenditure on existing road from Portumna to Gort but anticipates ‘employment and civilization of the wretched inhabitants of this Mountain District’ by establishment of the proposed works.
